ハーバード研修7日目

・日本語レポート

本日は、ボストンでラーメン店を経営している吉岡さんのお話を伺いに、「夢を語るラーメン店」へ行きました。お話の中で、吉岡さんの夢、ボストンまで来たいきさつ、最初のラーメン店の開店時の話等を聞かせていただきました。夢を持つことがいかに重要であるかを知り、また、その夢について公言をし、その夢を成し遂げた吉岡さんのお話を聞けたことは、素晴らしい経験となりました。

　また、吉岡さんのお言葉に触発されて、生徒たちは自分の夢を言葉にし、夢を成し遂げるためにどんなアクションを起こすべきかを具体的に考え議論していました。

　ラーメンを食べた後は、ハーバードへ戻りバディと共に過ごしました。夜ご飯はインド料理でした。

　本日の生徒たちの感想です。

・今日は昨日よりバディとの行動が楽しめた気がする。昨日のバディよりも何となく話しやすかったし、沢山質問ができた。好きな映画や音楽またアメリカの学生について生活についても聞けた。

・西岡さんの夢への話を聞き、新しいことを吸収できてよかった。夢に対する考えの一つとして参考にしたいと思った。

・すぐに大きな目標を達成するのは少し難しいが、小さな目標を一つずつ達成していけば、達成したい目標の中身も良い方向に変わり、小さな目標を達成することにも慣れて、少ない時間で達成することができるようになるとわかった。それを繰り返すと、おのずと目標も大きくなっていく。要するに、準備をしないで直ぐに大きな目的を達成することはできないということもわかった。

・English Report

Today we went to Yume wo Kataru Ramen restaurant, and got to listen to Mr. Yoshioka speak about his dream, how he came to Boston, and opened up his first ramen restaurant. He is a fascinating and passionate person, so getting to hear him speak about his life, his trials and tribulations of leaving Japan for the U.S. without being able to speak any English, to finally opening his restaurant one year after arriving is truly incredible. I can’t describe in this report about how fascinating it is to listen to Mr. Yoshioka speak about the importance of having a dream, being able to elucidate it, and then achieve it. He has an extremely humorous way of speaking and connects well with students. I could see how much he had an impact on them this year, too. So, all I will say is go eat at Yume wo Kataru in Sapporo and give it a try!

I love how Mr. Yoshioka gets our students to really put their dreams into words, and once they have done that to think about what actions and steps you need to take to achieve it. I believe the mental visualization of your dream and the steps you need to take is just as important as the dream itself. You have to understand the steps needed, and of course there will always be sidesteps, missteps, and backsteps along the way, but understanding this and thinking of all the ways you can achieve your dream is the key to success! I was very excited to hear what dreams our students had! After eating ramen we went back to Harvard and then the students went out with their buddies again. Since it was a Saturday the students didn’t have classes, they primarily hung out around campus, around Harvard Square, and exploring different aspects of campus. Afterwards, we had another dinner party with all the Harvard students at an Indian restaurant; so, all in all the students got to spend the better part of a day with their buddies and really dove deep into various topics throughout the time they spent together.
