SGH　Report on a special lesson of Asian Studies

　Members of the NGO, ＊PRENGO, authorized by Ritsumeikan Asia Pacific University (APU) visited our school and had a special lesson of Asian Studies for our students in Justice & Business (JB) Course. The class is for learning politics, economy, and social issues in Asia. Since our students will study about development issues in Thailand in the second semester, we decided to have a special lesson by members of PRENGO who are educating people in Thailand and it was fruitful class.

Lesson content

1. Introduction of APU: 2 PRENGO members from Thailand gave a presentation in English and Japanese. Our students were surprised at their presentation given in a language other than their mother tongue.

2. Group work “What is development?”: Members of PRENGO joined in each group and our students read on outline of the Mahad area in Thailand where PRENGO is doing NGO activities and took into account what they can do. Our students had a variety of ideas using their knowledge of international economy and development on a national scale which they had studied in Asian Studies classes, experienced in their overseas study tour last year, and from support of the members of PRENGO.

3. Introduction of PRENGO’s activities : PRENGO members introduced their activities in Mahad area in Mar. 2015. Our students felt admiration for them having a long meeting to arrive at a decision and action policy.

　Our students gained a deeper understanding of what matters for development, such as “Local people need to join these activities.” and “Education widens children’s possibilities.” through this special class.
