SGH Super Global High School Study Tour in Canada

We had a study tour in Vancouver, Canada to deepen our understanding of boarder tourism in a tourism development class and the coexistence of multiculturalism and a multiethnic nation in a global studies class.

Vancouver, Canada is the biggest city in the province of British Colombia and the third most populous city in Canada. But the first language of 52 % of them is not English and Vancouver is a melting pot of different ethnic groups. We, Asians can walk there without an uncomfortable feeling and we can feel multiculturalism and what is a multiethnic nation directly.

Here is our schedule :

※We stayed at our host family’s home for the whole trip.

We studied about boarder tourism only for 4 days but we followed a set assignment everyday so we had a productive study tour. We hired a Canadian tour guide so the explanation was in English. We also spoke only English while we had a discussion within a group so students’ listening comprehension and speaking ability improved a lot. Of course, students deepened their understanding about the history and current situation of the coexistence with First Nations, the immigrant policy, and current situation of Border Tourism through having an interview and discussing with high school students not only their English ability growth.
