SGH　The First　Session of Asian studies with Ritsumeikan Asia Pacific University (APU)

The JB Course’s Asian Studies Lecture is known as the Great Cooperation Lecture (GCL) of Ritsumeikan Asian Pacific University (APU).

　The JB Course’s Asian Studies Lecture is known as the Great Cooperation Lecture (GCL) of Ritsumeikan Asian Pacific University (APU). A professor from APU honored our school with a visit and led a two hour class. About two weeks later, APU and our school connected via satellite and had another two hour class.

　This year, the first lecture was given by APU’s Professor Hideki Fuchinoue of the Asian Pacific Department. Professor Fuchinoue’s lecture covered beginning economics studies, peace studies, and a survey of research practices regarding international relations. The research’s topic was Post-war Pacific Construction and Post-Disaster Resilience Construction. We also joined a class to gain an understanding of economics.

・8/26 3rd and 4th Periods
　We attended Professor Fuchinoue’s lecture based on economics. When one hears “Economics,” they tend to float the misconception that it requires advanced calculations, but rather than calculations, he made a point that it’s more about explaining events using formulae and models. Thanks to his simple explanations, we were able to understand. In addition, two pupils from Professor Fuchinoue’s seminar went around to each group and assisted the students’ activities.

・9/16 3rd and 4th Periods
　29 students were divided into 9 teams and gave five minute presentations. Not limited to just class time, by using time after school, each group was successful thanks to all of their practice. The types of topics they were given are as follows: human cloning, counterfeit Chinese goods, cloned pets, plastic surgery, weapon support for the IS, the Philippines’ electric dilemma, the lack of doctors available for the Syrian civil war, tobacco in Indonesia, and coffee plantations in Vietnam.
