SGH Sakhalin Workshop
From September 27th to the 30th, we took part in the Sakhalin Workshop.
The Sakhalin Workshop is a program which we visit the Sakhalin region
of Russia to learn about our theme, “Living with Multiculturalism.” This
workshop started last year. Five third-year students from the Ritsumei
Course who attended the lecture “Tourism Development” participated this
year. They visited the town of Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk in the Sakhalin region.
During this year’s “Tourism Development” lecture, the main theme was
“Promoting Inbound Tourism.” In order to learn how to bring more Russian
tourists to Japan as well as increasing the number of Japanese tourists
to Russia, we went there to gather materials, such as mass-media
materials. In addition, last year, due to Ritsumeikan and Sakhalin being
in a joint collaboration project, we made a courtesy visit to the state
government to report about last year’s collaboration. We were graced
with being warmly greeted by the deputy representative of the state and
other important employees. We were very thankful, and it left us with
many wonderful memories.
During this visit, we successfully gathered much useful materials and
information about Sakhalin. We would like to thank the following people
from the bottom of our hearts, beginning with Mr. Abe, all of the people
at the Sakhalin office of the Hokkaido government, all of the teachers
and students who greeted us at the First Gimnazia School, Mr. Tatsuta
and related persons at Hokkaido Bank, and finally our translator for the
entire trip, Ms. Rinma.
