Our Second Joint High School-University Lecture for Asian Studies
As part of our JB course “Asian Studies”, we had a joint lecture
with Asia Pacific University (APU). For the first lecture, an instructor
from APU came to our school and held a two-hour class. About two weeks
later, we had a two-hour class via satellite television.
For the second lecture, Professor Sasakawa of APU’s College of Asia
Pacific Studies (APS) held it. His area of expertise is the region of
South Asia, mainly Cambodia, from a cultural approach. During his
lecture, he taught us one method of research.
First lecture: Friday, October 13th, 5th and 6th period
Satellite class: Friday, October 27th, 5th and 6th period
Student Thoughts
1
We learned about Thailand’s alcohol prohibition. Also, we learned about how it was different with Japan. I thought I want to learn more about their religious culture because I can’t imagine the Buddhist disciplines being so strict since they aren’t in Japan.

During the professor’s lecture, I learned that it’s important to look at many books and media through the perspective that they are different from facts. I want to be able to think that I need to come up with contradicting points to what’s written in books I read.
