Student Thoughts:

・Before taking part in the SGH New Zealand Training Trip, I think it was a good idea to renew and deepen our understanding of the Ainu culture. The Maori and Ainu have their differences, but nonetheless each country has its own indigenous population. Through our training、 we are able to learn each other’s ways of thinking, histories, and lifestyles. We are able to learn even the smallest differences, and I want to introduce them all when given the chances.

・It was fun to be able to use my entire body to learn the Ainu language through such experiences with the elementary students, rather than simply learning at school. I was moved by joining such a class at Nibutani Elementary. It’s like I have more confidence now.

・Actually observing the Ainu people using things, I thought the time we spent was important and valuable. I had imagined what their daily life was like as well as what kind of people they were, but this experience was deeper. Also, Biratori’s scenery and autumn colors were breathtaking, and I thought that the Ainu in those days must have admired them as well. I think the time was luxurious.
